Giving Thanks...

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Our week was so confusing I don't know where to start. Perhaps with smoke...which is so ironic as FLAMES OF DECEIT has just been released, but I digress.
On Tuesday, I was multi-tasking...you know the drill. Thanksgiving dinner is two days away and the walls are caving in on you. So, I put the bread crumbs in the oven and walked out. BIG mistake.
The smoke alarm went off. Rushing to the kitchen, I found smoke rolling out of the oven. Turned the oven off, tossed baking soda on the flames, closed the oven. By now the alarm company is calling to verify our emergency.
"BAD COOKING," I gasped, slammed down the phone, checked the oven, can't see for smoke, rush to open windows, turn on ceiling fan, cough, wipe tears, grab pot holders...NO. My years of teaching kitchen safety kicked in...that's what makes this so awful! I looked out the kitchen door, sure enough, there were dried leaves on the deck. IF...I had followed my first instinct, I could have burned the house down. Thankfully, I only burned the bread crumbs...and all the smelling senses in my nostrils. But all ended well. Thank goodness.
Also on Tuesday, a family member went to the hospital for surgery.
On Wednesday, FIL ends up in ER in another hospital...but is released late Thursday.
On Friday, son #1 and DIL end up in a third hospital in labor...yep! You guessed it. They made us grandparents for the first time. In all the whirl of planning for family gatherings, I didn't consider any of this happening. The baby is early according to doctor's predictions.
Reminds me of the saying, Best Laid Plans...
But we have much to be thankful for...and that's the point of Thanksgiving. Sometimes, we need a knot jerked in our tails to remind us of what is important.
Hope you and yours are well and had a good Thanksgiving.
Drop a line...tell us about your week...
